Day 2: Sunday

Woke up late (a theme which continued the rest of the trip). I took a picture of Mac and the hole he had dug in his kitchen (don't ask), and then Enrique and I headed out. We went to the bus station, and caught the bus to Toledo.

Toledo is an old (13th century?) city built on a hill. We visited the cathedral, which is beautiful beyond description. Alas, it was also beautiful beyond pictures too, because the church didn't want anyone taking pictures inside it. We spent several hours stomping along the maze-like streets of the city, dodging cars which would try to drive through impossibly small roads.

We walked about 5 miles around Toledo. It's worth it. After smoke started coming from my shoes, we walked back to the bus station and caught the next bus to Madrid. After dropping our things off at Mac's house, we met Enrique's friends at an outdoor restaurant. We talked for a long while (well they did, I was practising my Spanish.)

Afterward, Enrique and I had dinner at some weird American-looking restaurant. Eating all over the place is very common in Spain, simply because most restaurants serve tiny little meals, called Tapas. As I was starting to discover, it takes a lot of tiny Spanish meals to equal one good American one. Between the walking 10 miles a day and eating tiny meals, I was rapidly dropping weight.

Anyway, while at this restaurant I had a chocolate milkshake. If you are an American, and have never been to Europe, then you can't understand just how delicious European chocolate. We obviously only get their leftovers over here. It was much richer, much more chocolatey than a US shake, but it didn't burn the back of your throat. It was just sweet and smooth. I'm starting to drool now, so enough about the milkshake...

Now that Mr. Stomach was happy, we hopped the metro back to Mac's house, and hit the sack about 3 am.
